Universalist Unitarian Church of East Liberty

This Year's Curriculum

A Program for All Ages

Unitarian Universalist religious education programs rotate between four themes or “pillars:” world religions, U. U. principles, Judeo-Christian heritage, and social action.

Nursery

Nursery care for infants through five-year-olds is available from the start of the service at 11am if needed; or young ones can go to the nursery when we “sing the children out” to their classes.  We have a paid nursery care provider, and one volunteer per week who signs up in advance to assist.  When there are not two adults available, the nursery is available as a “crying room” for parents to bring their children.

Preschool

Twice per month, children 3-4 years old (Pre-K) will have a lesson from We are Many, We are One, a curriculum from the Unitarian Universalist Association that teaches young children that people at our church are very much the same, yet our differences are to be celebrated.  This class meets upstairs from the nursery.

K-5th Grade

Kindergarten through 5th graders will meet in the schoolhouse again this year. They will learn about bible stories through Timeless Themes: Stories from the Hebrew and Christian Bibles, another outstanding UUA curriculum, supplemented by Hide and Seek with God.  As with the preschool class, stories, artwork, songs and games help teach these stories.

Youth

Youth grades 6-12 will learn about the various faiths in our community through their curriculum The Church Across the Street.  We will visit area churches and religious institutions about once a month, and discuss the common elements and differences between various religions other weeks. We also encourage our youths’ participation in regional events such as “cons,” youth conferences for UU churches from the “Heartland” (Michigan/Indiana/Ohio/Kentucky) region.

Adults

Periodically our minister and/or Religious Education Coordinator run adult religious education classes.  Adult R.E. classes can also be run by members.  Check the newsletter for current offerings, and more information on the JXN Community Forum and other adult programming can be found here.  If there is a class you are interested in leading, please speak with the minister or the R.E. Coordinator.  For ideas on curricula, see the UUA bookstore.

In addition…

The religious education program includes monthly intergenerational services where the children have a role in the service, such as for holidays and the “secret friend” celebration in February.

For your child’s safety, please make sure to fill out a registration form for your child before his or her first RE session.  Please let us know if your child has any special needs.

If you have further questions or would like to participate in these programs, contact us.
