Universalist Unitarian Church of East Liberty

Religious Education

Purpose and Goals: The Religious Education (RE) Program of the Universalist Unitarian Church of East Liberty promotes the spiritual growth of children, youth and adults, and nurtures the religious life of church members, their families, and the community.  Religious Education curricula are selected each year from the four ?pillars? of RE:  world religions, our Judeo-Christian heritage, Unitarian Universalism, and Social Justice.  Children, youth and adults learn valuable ?moral lessons? that can help them navigate their complex lives while growing in a caring, nurturing environment.

Nursery: Nursery care for infants through five-year-olds is available from the start of the service at 10:50 am if needed.

Preschool: Once a month, children 3-4 years old have a lesson from a curriculum that teaches young children we are very much the same, yet our differences are to be celebrated.  This class meets upstairs from the nursery.

K-6th Grade: Kindergarten through 6th graders meet weekly in the schoolhouse.  Curricula focus on the four pillars of RE as described above.

Youth: The teen class is available for youth an average of twice a month, in between church services with sermon themes especially relevant to teens.  While our youth group is small, we encourage our youths? participation in regional events such as youth conferences ("cons").

Adult Programs: Our minister and religious education coordinator periodically run evening adult religious education courses on different themes.  For current information, please see the newsletter.

JXN Community Forum: Our church hosts a monthly forum in conjunction with the Jackson District Library.  The forums are inspired by the UU prinicple which affirms and promotes the free and responsible search for truth and meaning. Forums are free and open programs to facilitate dialogue about the challenging issues of our time. All forums are held at the Jackson District Library, 244 W. Michigan Ave., Jackson, MI.  Forums are usually on the third Thursdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 pm, Sept. through May, unless otherwise specified.  For current Forum information, see the Newsletter or the Facebook page for the forum.

Intergenerational: The religious education program includes monthly intergenerational services where the children have a role in the service, such as for holidays and the "secret friend" celebration in February.
